With the release of Brisingr in a matter of days, there is obvious excitement going through the fan fiction community. We're all dying to read the book and share our discoveries, our complaints and our compliments with each other. Unfortunately, not all of us are able to get to the book right away and we want to be surprised. Like for every book, there is a spoiler policy and it is in effect on both SFF and SF3 for a month after the book's release. On October 20th the spoiler policy will come to an end.
SFF Spoiler Policy
There will be no fan fic containing Brisingr spoilers the first week the book is out. So, from Saturday the 20th to Saturday the 27th the queue is to be free of all spoilers. This gives time for some of the moderators to read the book so they can validate your stories without any problem.
After the week is up, you will be required to put a spoiler warning in your story. As you know, when you create one, you have to put warnings such as Language, Sexual Content, Violence and Mature Themes. Added to that list will be Brisingr Spoilers. You are required to put this on no matter how small the spoiler. You should also put a warning in the summary, but that it not required.
If you fail to follow these rules, your account will be suspended until the spoiler policy comes to an end (Oct 20).
SF3 Spoiler Policy
There is to be no discussion of Brisingr outside of the marked forum. We have created a sub-forum inside of Inheritance Cycle for you all the discuss every aspect of the new book. Please no posting spoilers outside that forum. If you do, your account will be suspended the policy comes to an end.
Happy reading everyone!
Applications are now closed. Thank you to all who applied. We are reviewing them and will announce our decision ASAP.

Also, the wildest theory contest is about to end (September 18th). Send in your entries ASAP or you'll miss out! - Shadowjhunter
Submissions are 500 words max, and 150 words minimum, so there should be no reason why everyone shouldn't have a go.
EDIT: It is one theory or more if it extends on from your original theory. It is up to you if you want to write it as a short story or an explanation.
Remember to describe your theory and the reasoning behind it. Good luck and have fun!
This contest will last until September 18th (PST USA). Submit all entries under the 'wildest theory contest' category.
Most Original: Burning Hatred, by Wind Rider.
‘Of all the people I imagined for being the laughing villain, Orik was never one of them!’ – Swenson.
An original story with an original plot! Congratulations Wind Rider.
---
Moderator’s Choice (This Month, Shadowjhunter): All in The Family, by Sarasquare.
This was one of my favourite stories from the Laughing Villain Contest. It is a well-written tale with originality. The concept of the ‘laughing villain’ was cleverly used.
I recommend this fiction to anyone who likes the darker side to stories.
---
The Linguistics Award: Perspective, by Black Ink.
Well done, Black Ink for being recognised for 'The Linguistics Award'. Your story showed an outstanding knowledge of grammatical, structural and punctual usage.
---
The Underdog Award: Lady, by sky.
'sky introduced a very interesting-sounding character.' - Swenson.
sky has been recognised as the author whose story displayed a great deal of thought, effort and uniqueness. To those who have not yet read the story, do so now!
---
Overall Winner: The Darkness, by Viva_la_Vida! (HM)
‘'The Darkness' is a compelling story with an unpredictable twist’ – Shadowjhunter.
Congratulations on being the overall winner of the Laughing Villain Contest! A nice little banner is being sent your way.

And there you have it! Congratulations to all our winners, especially HM, who took away the major title of the overall winner of the contest. Another contest will be released very soon (yes, before the release of Brisingr ((and yes it will end before Brisingr is released)) ). Be sure to keep your eyes peeled!

Have any suggestions for future contest categories? Head over to the forums and have your say.
I have some good news and some bad news.
What would you like to hear first? The bad news?
Okay.
The bad news is that the announcement of the winners for this contest will take a little longer than previously predicted.
But not for good reason!
The good news is that winning the contest has completely changed! Sure, there will be one winner, but there will be also other categories in which people can be recognised. For example, the contest is now split into five sections.
For...
MOST ORIGINAL: Which story really stood out for its creativeness and/or uniqueness?
THE MODERATOR'S CHOICE: Which story did a nominated moderator choose as his/her favourite and why?
THE LINGUISTICS AWARD: Which story showed a true dominance in vocabulary, grammatical, punctual and structural use?
THE UNDERDOG AWARD: Which story showed a lot of potential, but was never really recognised by reviewers?
THE OVERALL WINNER: The true winner of the contest.
Good luck to everyone!
So, you submit your story and somehow it makes it onto the site. You might wonder how this magical thing happens, and in the back of your mind you know it is someone called a moderator who is making all this magic happen. Sometimes, you wonder who they are. Well, now you can find out on our Staff Page.
The link can also be found under the help section of the forum.
The sounds of drums begin to beat from afar. As they draw closer, so too does the rhythmic reverberation. Louder and louder the drums become until you suddenly realise: it is not the sound of drums you can hear, but rather, the monotone chant of a thousand voices. You listen carefully and soon the chant becomes clear…
Brisingr… Brisingr… BRISINGR!
It is time to celebrate the upcoming release of the third inheritance title, Brisingr. This contest will test you in your creative and logical skills as well as push your prediction boundaries.
Christopher Paolini stated that a new villain would appear in book three – one that loves to laugh, but not in a good way! It is your job to create this villain in an opening chapter to Brisingr. It can be either the prologue (think of the Shade in Eragon) or the first chapter to Brisingr.
Be original. Take yourself away from your comfort zone that is the typical Eragon fan fiction. Here is a chance for you to spread your creative wings and prove yourself as an adaptive author.
This contest will run until August 31st EDT (USA) (three weeks away).
Rules:
Prologue/Chapter should be no shorter than 600 words and should not exceed 3000 words.
Keep it clean. Sexual content, excessive violence and/or language are strictly prohibited and may result in immediate disqualification.
Only two entries per user, please. And it will be the first two entries only! So choose carefully when you submit your story.
Stories should not be submitted any later than August 29th. If this is unavoidable, please contact a moderator to discuss late entries.
Good luck and have fun!
NOTE:
Please submit under the 'Laughing Villain Challenge', in 'challenges'.
After many submissions and the utter confusion over the time-zone differences, a winner has finally been decided upon. Please extend your congratulations to...
Lya's story, Kottrs Augya!
Congratulations Lya. Something special should be sent your way as soon as the moderators receive more information on your prize. However, this contest was so close! Therefore, I would like to announce that in equal second place are...
A Witch and a Werecat by Fires Light
AND
The Commander by Skulblaka_fricai
Well done to everyone who participated! Again, I apologise for the time-zone mix-up. However, it is your responsibility to have your story completed prior to the closing date. This does not mean submitting hours before the contest ends.
Good luck to everyone with future contests! Keep an eye out for the next challenge.
As most of you might have noticed, both SFF and SF3 went down for a couple of days. There was a mix up with the server, but it has all been fixed and you can proceed as normal. Sorry about that. In the future, we’ll try to get things fixed faster.
