The time for the SFF Adventure is almost upon us, and very soon you will be throwing your beloved character out into the wilds of the world. Before you do so however, you will need to complete a few tasks in order to reserve yourself a permanent place in the adventure. So I have constructed a list below that will be your responsibility to check over and see if you have either completed or been included in the sections listed.
Note: If you have not yet created a character, you will need to go to the Character Discussion section of the SFF Adventure board on the forum to create one. You cannot take part in the Adventure without a character!
Something mysterious is happening in the village of Narda. If you have not already, check out the Shur'tugal Fan Fiction Adventure now and sign up with a character. It's never too late to join and there is still plenty of time left to register (the adventure offically begins early December).
However, someone from the village of Narda has brought to the council's attention, a certain minstrel overheard singing a peculiar song.
Visit here for more details.
EDIT: Riddles, riddles. If you have signed up for the adventure, be sure to complete the first riddle. It's challenging, but simple. Visit here for more information.
After lots of great entries, I'm pleased to congratulate...
Wind Rider's 'Nightmare - When Dreams Come True!'
Your entry was chosen because of your great sense of imagery and for coming up with a truly unusual Halloween experience!
Also, congratulations to the runner up -
Skulblaka_Fricai for their prose/poem O Halloween!
Thanks to everyone else for all your hard work! While you're waiting for the next contest, remember that November is National Novel Writing Month! Be sure to check out the thread at our forums if you are interested in joining other authors from Shur'tugal Fan Fiction in this great competition!
Everybody give a warm welcome to our new/old mod, Selanie!
Selanie used to be a moderator but left the site awhile back. Now, she's returning to be a part of the mod crew again. You can chat with Selanie here on her intro thread on SF3.
It's the moment a number of you have been waiting for. *drum roll* The Validated author category is open. This means those of you who are validated authors can now move/post your stories into the validated category.
Those of you who have not been validated, be warned, a submission into the category when you are not authorized will lead to a strike.
For those of you who wish to become a validated author, it might be some time before we open up applications again. However, take this time to polish your stories so your applications will be accepted.
A reminder of the Validated category requirements, so you can start working toward meeting them:
To qualify for validation, you must meet one of the following.
A) One story, twenty chapters or longer, that has been updated within the past three months
B) One story, ten chapters or longer, updated in the last three months AND one story, ten chapters or longer, updated in the last year
C) One story, ten chapters or longer, updated in the last three months AND five stories of any length, two of which have been updated in the last year
D) One story, ten chapters or longer, updated in the last three months AND five poems, three of which updated within the last year
E) One story, ten chapters or longer, updated in the last three months AND one script, ten chapters or longer, updated within the past year.
Also, remember that Validated stories are held to a higher standard than General--that is, you MUST know how to spell and punctuate. Beyond that, a Validated author should have creative ideas and be good at developing both plot and character.
Good luck!
Weird things always seem to happen at Halloween. But what if your jack-o-lantern came alive? Or a group of real vampires decided to start trick-or-treating? This month's contest is to come up with the most unusual story about a supernatural halloween incident. This is an original fiction competition,so there's plenty of room for creativity! Don't be afraid to include werewolves, fairies, vampires, haunted houses, and more! The contest will run through Oct 27th. Please keep your entries between 600-3000 words and relatively clean for younger readers. No more than two entries per user will be accepted, and they must be brand new - no recycling of old stories please!
Good luck!
Finally, after three months of waiting, the October SFF Newsletter has finally been sent out! It includes articles on the Writing Tip of the Month (Inspiration), an interview with Adurna Vanyali, our Featured Month, and a review of Brisingr.
To those who haven't heard about the newsletter, it is a monthly production of the SFF Staff. Typical issues include interviews with Featured Authors and Reviewers, as well as site news. To find out more and to sign up, read the Newsletter FAQ on SF3. Happy reading, everyone, and we'll try to release the next newsletter next month!
After much deliberation, we found that the wildest theory was...
Skulblaka_Fricai's "The Rider and the Extremely Dirty Dwarf Dude"!
Congratulations! We chose your entry because, ironically, you were the closest to being correct! The prophecy of the Menoa tree was answered and the story consisted mostly of dwarves! Gah! Wildest theory and yet it had some sustainability!
A neat banner is being sent your way! Congratulations to all the participants. Look out for the next contest, which will be released shortly.
The age of the dragon riders has come…
We promised you big news and here it is!
Shur’tugal Fan Fiction is proud to present the first massively multiplayer online, text-adventure!
Head on down to the discussion board and discuss the upcoming adventure where you, and your friends, will be able to participate in writing stories, solving riddles, entering challenges and overall, improving your skills as writers.
We’re very excited about this adventure and we’re sure that it’s going to be a whole lot of fun! So draw your swords, saddle your dragons and say goodbye to your family. You are about to embark on an epic adventure that will take you beyond your imagination!
EDIT: A FAQ has just been published. Now is the time to ask questions.
The team at Shur'tugal Fan Fiction regrets to inform you that the moderator's position advertised earlier this month is no longer up for consideration. During the time leading up to the imminent release of Brisingr, an executive decision was made that another moderator would be needed to cover the post-Brisingr hype.
However, after further consideration and consultations with the team, it has been decided upon that no moderator will be hired at this current stage in time. To put it honestly, we are just not as busy as we thought we would be.
There were many excellent applications and we greatly appreciate everyone who applied for a job - trust us, it was a tough work sorting through all the nit-picky elements of each application! In addition, there were several candidates allegeable for joining the team. To those people, we have not forgotten about you. If, or when, there is a position vacant in the future, your applications - if you so choose to resubmit them - will be considered very carefully. However, there was just too much involved in hiring another moderator, unnecessarily.
To everyone, we apologise. We know there was a long wait to see who received the moderator's position and we're very sorry to disappoint. However, as stated above, more moderators would only complicate things. All hatred is to be directed at Shadowjhunter's forum.
But, there's good news as well. On top of a winner being announced for the Wildest Theory Contest (which will be very soon), something extremely exciting is coming to SFF. We're saying nothing about it at this present moment, but we promise it will be BIG: bigger than any contest, larger than any workshop, more immense than any story ever submitted to Shur'tugal Fan Fiction.
So stay tuned everyone...
For something dark is lurking just around the corner.
